Canoe Tour on Lake Varese to Isolino Virginia
Discover the lake through nature, history and local stories
Lake Varese from the water
Starting from Biandronno, we paddle across the western part of Lake Varese towards Isolino Virginia. Away from roads and traffic, the canoe offers a quiet perspective on the lake, its reed beds, vegetation and wildlife.
Stories from the lake
Lake Varese has always been closely connected to the communities living around it. Along the way, we share stories about local traditions, fishing and the people who have shaped the lake’s history. If we are lucky, we may even meet a local fisherman who still works on the lake and can offer a first-hand connection to its past and present.
The Ticinello channel
Before reaching the island, we enter the Ticinello, the narrow channel separating Isolino Virginia from the mainland. Surrounded by vegetation and shallow waters, it is one of the most distinctive sections of the route and particularly suited to exploring by canoe.
Isolino Virginia
Isolino Virginia is an archaeological site of international importance and part of the UNESCO World Heritage property covering the prehistoric pile dwellings of the Alps. Reaching the island by canoe gives you a different way to discover this remarkable place and understand the long relationship between people and the lake.
Wildlife and nature
The lake is home to reed beds, aquatic plants, trees and a variety of bird and animal species. Moving slowly by canoe allows us to observe the natural environment without engines or unnecessary noise, while leaving the wildlife undisturbed.
Meet Nagisa
And then there is Nagisa, the youngest member of our team. Our dog may join the experience and quickly become one of its most memorable characters. Curious, energetic and completely at home around the water, she is part of what makes this experience feel less like a standard tour and more like a day spent with locals.
