Experience the lotus flowers from a Canadian canoe

During the flowering season, large areas of Lake Varese become covered in lotus flowers. From a Canadian canoe, we paddle among large flowers and leaves that can rise above us even when standing in the canoe. We then explore reed beds and small channels, discovering the lake from a perspective that is simply impossible to experience from the shore.

Nature and wildlife on Lake Varese

The lotus flowers grow in an environment rich in wildlife, where we may encounter herons, grebes, cormorants, coots, woodpeckers, birds of prey and many other species. The slow and quiet movement of the canoe allows us to explore these areas with minimal disturbance, while enjoying the natural surroundings of Lake Varese and Isolino Virginia.

A Canadian canoe experience for everyone

No previous experience is required. After a short introduction, you will learn the basic paddling techniques and how to move safely on the water. The pace is relaxed and the experience is suitable even for those trying a Canadian canoe for the first time. Pollo will use all his experience as a canoe instructor to make sure you can enjoy every moment of the adventure.

From nature to history

Continuing our journey across Lake Varese, we reach Isolino Virginia, one of the most important prehistoric pile-dwelling sites in Europe and part of the UNESCO World Heritage property Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps. Depending on the itinerary, we can stop to visit the archaeological museum and discover a place that has been inhabited by humans for over 7,000 years.

Two experiences in one

The lotus flowering season around Isolino Virginia tells two very different stories: the richness of the lake's natural environment and the long history of human presence in this area. We can paddle quietly through the flowers before approaching the island and its archaeological site. If you are lucky, you may even meet Pollo, our four-legged companion and a true local celebrity, who loves joining us on our adventures.
