Arona is one of the best-known towns on the southern shores of Lake Maggiore, where the relationship between the town and the water is especially strong. The lakeside promenade leads towards Piazza del Popolo, facing the lake and Rocca di Angera, while above the town are Rocca Borromea, the remains of an ancient fortress set in a panoramic park, and San Carlone, the 35.10-metre monumental statue of Saint Charles Borromeo. From the town centre to Lagoni di Mercurago

Arona is more than its waterfront. Inland, the Lagoni di Mercurago Nature Reserve combines woodland, meadows, wetlands and small lakes with important prehistoric archaeological remains. Further south, the landscape continues towards Dormelletto and Castelletto Sopra Ticino, while Angera lies across the lake and offers a completely different perspective on the same stretch of Lake Maggiore.
