We start in Reno di Leggiuno, on the Lombardy shore of Lake Maggiore, with a short Stand Up Paddle lesson to help you get comfortable with the board, the paddle and your balance.

Then we head out onto the lake.

The route goes towards Santa Caterina del Sasso, the ancient hermitage built into the rocky cliff overlooking Lake Maggiore, with the possibility of continuing towards the cliffs when the route, the group’s level and lake conditions allow it.

Santa Caterina is not simply the destination.

The whole journey is part of the experience.

As you paddle along the coast, the landscape constantly changes. Distances look different, the shoreline gets closer and places you may already have seen from land take on a completely new perspective.

A lesson, then an excursion

You do not need to know how to SUP before you arrive.

The first part of the experience is designed to teach you the basics and help you understand how to move on the board. Then, depending on the group’s level and the conditions of the day, the lesson naturally turns into an exploration of the lake.

So this is not simply a SUP lesson on Lake Maggiore, and it is not just a guided tour.

It is a way to learn SUP and immediately use it to discover the lake.

Reno, Santa Caterina and the cliffs

Starting from Reno means experiencing the Lombardy shore of Lake Maggiore directly from the water and following the coastline towards one of its most recognisable landmarks.

Santa Caterina del Sasso is one of the most striking places on this side of the lake, with the hermitage perched on the rock directly above the water.

Seeing it from the lake is a completely different experience from visiting it by land.

Here, the lake is not the background. It is the way you discover the landscape.

Lake Maggiore is more than the Borromean Islands

The Borromean Islands are one of the great attractions of Lake Maggiore, but they are not the only way to experience the lake.

The Lombardy shore offers a different landscape, with rocks, small villages, beaches, cliffs and stretches of coastline that take on a completely new character when seen from a SUP board.

Reno and Santa Caterina are perfect for discovering this side of the lake: you are not simply arriving at a destination, you are paddling along the coast to reach it.

Is it suitable for first-time paddlers?

Yes. You do not need previous SUP experience.

The introductory lesson helps you get comfortable with the equipment and learn the basic movements. We then decide how to continue according to the group, the participants’ level and the lake conditions.

How long is the route?

There is not necessarily one identical itinerary for everyone.

The distance and duration can be adapted according to the participants’ level, the time available and the conditions of the day. When possible, the experience can continue towards the cliffs.

The goal is not to cover as many kilometres as possible, but to enjoy the lake.

When can you go SUP on Lake Maggiore?

SUP experiences are offered approximately from early spring to late autumn. September and October can also be enjoyable months for going out on the water on suitable days.

The actual possibility of going out is always assessed according to the conditions of the day, including water and air temperature, wind and weather.

You can visit Santa Caterina after the SUP experience

One of the advantages of this area is that the SUP experience can become part of a longer day in Leggiuno.

Santa Caterina del Sasso can also be visited from land, allowing you to experience the same landscape first from the water and then from above the lake.
